Fed: Business council calls for overhaul of Australia's schools

The Business Council of Australia says governments should boost spending on Australia's
schools .. as part of a broader overhaul of the education system.

The council says Australia's school system is at risk of falling behind those in other
developed countries.

It says governments need to increase their investment in education .. which has declined
from 4.5 per cent of GDP in 1995 to 4.3 per cent in 2003.

The BCA warns in a paper that Australia has one of the lowest secondary school completion
rates in the developed world.
