WA: Serious exotic termites found in wooden furniture in Perth
An exotic termite that could threaten the harvested timber industry has been foundin furniture at a house in Perth's northern suburbs.
The West Indian drywood termite was found in a desk, wooden box and picture frame bya pest controller.
Department of Agriculture entomologist PETER DAVIS says the infested furniture, whichwas imported from Guam and Hawaii, has been fumigated to kill the termites.
Mr DAVIS says the termite which is widespread in tropical and sub-tropical areas ofCentral America and Africa has been found in Perth once before but was eradicated.
