Fed: Tobacco still claims thousands, 40 years on

A leading public health expert has warned thousands of people will continue to die
if the federal government fails to address its low spending on the problem.

This week is the 40th anniversary of the United States Surgeon General's report which
officially recognised tobacco causes cancer and other serious diseases.

Australia has banned tobacco advertising and banished smoking from indoor public spaces,
