NSW: Blood and belongings found by waterside

SYDNEY, Aug 26 AAP - A pool of blood and abandoned fishing gear were discovered onrocks by the water in Sydney's eastern suburbs, police said today.

A fisherman found a green nylon bomber jacket and a small blue tackle box alongsidethe blood at Bare Island, off the point at La Perouse, yesterday morning.

Maroubra Detective Sergeant Syd Davis said forensic tests were being carried out onthe blood to confirm if it was human.

"Police are concerned a person has hurt themselves on the rocks, become disorientedand has possibly fallen in to the water," Sgt Davis said.

"It's also possible a person has hurt themselves and left the jacket and tackle boxto seek treatment."

Sgt Davis urged anyone with information about the property to contact police at Maroubra.

The bomber jacket has elastic at the bottom and zippered pockets, and the tackle boxcontained hooks and sinkers.
